about

Björn Bergmann

A feeling has been familiar to me since I was a boy: being the one who stands out but doesn't quite fit in. I took off as soon as I could and traveled around the Earth. Seeking the unusual, the different, the new, the unexpected - a world that could be mine. Many places became a temporary home, but none truly felt like it. Trying on all sorts of jackets to suit me, illuminating once this and once that part of my various soul.

Then, during a 60-day trip in 2022 to New Orleans, Nashville, New York, and Chicago, something clicked. I encountered unique characters who must have felt like aliens in their own world, yet they held up their pride like the Statue of Liberty. Their spirit inspired me, and I began fully embracing the contradictions within myself: I love old-fashioned swing music just as much as electronic beats in a club. I am Mr. Sunshine and I have my beastly side. I am mother-in-law’s darling, but I eat men for breakfast. I am a Berliner, a crossfitter, an urban gay man in a nostalgic suit. Allow me to take you by the hand and show you my world: I am Björn Bergmann, and this is precisely where I belong.

musical biography

My musical journey began with classical guitar at the age of 7. I later ventured into classical singing at 14, played in bands, wrote my first songs, and learned to play the piano.

During my teenage years, I found myself drawn to the world of Pop and R&B. Singers such as Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, and Whitney Houston greatly inspired me.

By the time I turned 20, a whole new world opened up before me. Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Nat King Cole, and Dean Martin captured my heart, and I realized that their style was a perfect fit for my voice. This way of singing is cool, exudes understatement, and effortlessly swings with elegance. For most, it's challenging to make it sound so easy, but those guys could!

I studied jazz vocals in Berlin, perhaps being one of the most pop-oriented students there ever was. I embrace the playfulness of jazz, the nimble rhythm, the freedom of fooling around with variations. However, I also have a deep love for the clarity of a pop song, its catchiness, and the power of repetition and simplicity. I've followed this approach for years, earning a living and performing all across Europe. People would often say to me, "I always avoided jazz - I didn't know it could be so much fun." And that's where I found my passion, my talent, and my contribution to this world combined.

Now, with my original songs, I aim to take things to the next level, inviting people to dance and rediscover the uplifting and feel-good vibes of this incredible style.
